"Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me" by CityAlight
The title of this song is repeated throughout - “Yet not I, but through CHRIST in me.” Last week we looked at Ephesians 2:8-9 in which Paul says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” From start to finish, this song speaks of God’s gift of grace in offering salvation through the finished work of Jesus on the cross. The first verse says Jesus is our “joy, righteousness, and freedom” and then goes on to say that our “hope is only Jesus.” Jesus offers true joy, freedom, and hope. Through his work on the cross, those of us who follow him are declared righteous. The second verse talks about the valleys in our lives. “The night is dark, but I am not forsaken…for by my side the Savior, He will stay.” Many search for answers to the low points in their lives, but true victory is only found in Jesus. The third verse looks at the price Jesus paid as He took God’s wrath that should have been directed toward us. “The future sure, the price it has been paid. For Jesus bled, and suffered for my pardon, and He was raised to overthrow the grave.” We constantly sin against God, but through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus we can be forgiven of those sins! Finally, the fourth verse looks to the future hope we have of eternity with God. “For He has said that He will bring me home. And day by day, I know He will renew me until I stand with joy before the throne.” Only because of the grace given to us through Christ can we receive this gift of salvation. Have you received this gift of salvation? If so, are you sharing this hope with those around you? Take some time to listen to this song again and reflect on God's great gift of salvation. Pick out your favorite lyric from this song and share with somebody (in person or online) why this lyric encourages you. |
