"Cornerstone" by Hillsong Worship
The lyrics for each of the verses of this song originally come from a familiar hymn - The Solid Rock. I don't know about you, but sometimes I look at what's happening around me and feel hopeless. I like to be in control of any and every situation and when I can't, I get anxious and lose hope. But here's the thing... God never intended for me to control these things! Even more, as we see in Ephesians 2:8-9, it's ONLY BY GRACE and THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS that we can be saved. When we receive His gift of salvation, we receive His righteousness. When God looks at me He no longer sees my failed attempts...He now sees the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ. "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly trust in Jesus' name." Anything I place my hope in besides Jesus Christ will eventually let me down. Not even the "sweetest frame" - maybe a manmade structure/system or even another person - can ever live up to Christ's trustworthiness. Are you fully putting your hope in Jesus' blood and righteousness? Is He the cornerstone/foundation of your life right now? What is a "sweetest frame" you find yourself trusting? Take some time to listen to this song again and spend time in prayer. Pick out your favorite lyric from this song and share with somebody (in person or online) why this lyric encourages you. |
