"The Love of God" written by Frederick Martin Lehman in 1917
In his prayer in Ephesians 3:14-21, Paul prays to the Father that his readers would be...
The first verse talks about God's story of redemption. The "guilty pair" (Adam and Eve) brought sin into the world, but God "bowed down with care" giving His Son (Jesus) as payment for our sins. His erring child (us) was reconciled and pardoned from our sin. The second verse speaks of God's love lasting throughout time into eternity. No matter how much time passes, God's love will still endure. It is measureless, it is strong, it is the song of the saints and angels. The story behind the writing of the third and final verse is captivating. I encourage you to CLICK HERE to read more about it. To paraphrase, if the ocean were filled with ink, if we could use the entire skies to write, if every stalk on earth were a pen, and every single person on earth set out to write the breadth, length, height, and depth of God's love... We would run out of ink in the ocean and we would run out of sky to write on. This gives me chills just thinking about it. God's love for us is so great, and we must share that love with others. |
In John 13:35, Jesus says, "By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” Are you showing love to other believers well? What about non-Christians? If not, what opportunities do you have this week to share Christ's love?
Take some time to listen to this song again and spend time in prayer. Pick out your favorite lyric from this song and share with somebody (in person or online) why this lyric encourages you. |
