"Build My Life" by Pat Barrett
In the first verse of this song, we sing of Jesus' worth. He is worthy of every song we could ever sing, every praise we could ever bring, every breath we could ever breathe! And so much more! The second verse reminds us who Jesus is - the "Name above all names" (Philippians 2:9-11), the only One who could ever save (Ephesians 2:8-9). Both verses remind US of OUR purpose - we live for Him and Him alone! In the chorus we sing that Jesus is holy (set apart) and there is none beside Him (Deuteronomy 4:35). In response to who He is, we ask Him to open up our eyes, to show us who He is, and to fill us with His heart. As He does those things and we yield to His control, we pray, "Lead me in Your love to those around me." What a difference those words make if we pray them before we interact with others - especially those that might rub us the wrong way. Finally, the bridge is a declaration of our dependence on Him in every area of life. "I will build my life upon Your love, it is a firm foundation. I will put my trust in You alone and I will not be shaken!" If we build our lives on the foundation of God and His love, it changes everything! |
