"Amazing Love" written by Billy J. Foote
This song is an awesome reminder of the gospel. "I'm forgiven because You were forsaken. I'm accepted, You were condemned." Though we deserve God's wrath, we are forgiven through Christ's work on the cross. Though we should be condemned because of our sin, we are instead accepted by God! "I'm alive and well, Your Spirit is within me because You died and rose again." Instead of being spirtually dead, we are now ALIVE in Christ. We have hope for the future because of the resurrection. "Amazing love, how can it be that You, my King, would die for me? Amazing love, I know it's true...and it's my joy to honor You!" What an incredible love Jesus must have for us to endure the cross and die for us. The chorus is a great reflection of that truth and a reminder of our number 1 goal in life - to honor Christ. We don't do good works to earn His favor; we do them BECAUSE of what He has already done for us. The bridge is simple and repetitive, but simplicity and repetition are great ways to remind ourselves of who we are and who He is. "You are my King (repeat)." We should allow Jesus to rule over our lives, but we often try to take that authority upon ourselves. As we sing this line over and over again, let it remind you that He is in control, not us. |
