RECAP & REFLECTION QUESTIONS
In John 16 Jesus is about to conclude his discussion with the disciples regarding his departure and what they can expect in their future.  It is not a pretty picture.  His words cause them great concern.  Not only will they face tribulation, but they will have to do it without Jesus.
  1. Read John 16 and discuss all that the Holy Spirit (Helper, Comforter, Counselor) will do for the disciples.
  2. Jesus says that it is better for him to leave the disciples so that the Helper/Holy Spirit can come.  He actually says it is to their advantage!  Why is this the case?
  3. Why is it important, in the midst of the suffering of the disciples, that they recall the words and actions of Jesus?
  4. Read and discuss John 16:32-33.  What would the disciples take away from these words of Jesus?   What are the key themes of these 2 verses?
  5. Discuss with your family or group what it means when Jesus says, "take heart, I have overcome the world".
