"When We All Get to Heaven" written by Eliza Edmunds Stites Hewitt & Mosie Lister
This song points our attention to our future glory with Jesus in Heaven! In heaven, we will serve God forever. There will be no more suffering, hunger, thirst, and God will take away our pain (Revelation 7:15-16). We will worship God and reign with Him forever (Revelation 22:3-5). Our ultimate destination is something to be excited about! Verse 1 tells us to sing of some of God's attributes - love, mercy, and grace. Not only should we sing of these things in corporate worship, but our lives should "sing" these same attributes as we reflect Christ. Verse 2 reminds us that the sanctification process while we are on earth may not be easy - "while we walk the pilgrim pathway clouds will overspread the sky." While life may be hard, verse 3 challenges us to be true and faithful - as He is - trusting and serving Him and others each day. Verse 4 speaks of our "prize" as Paul speaks in Philippians 3:14 - "I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." |
