The Jewish believers were dispersed by persecution throughout the land. They had come under various cultural influences that had caused them to pull back from what Jesus taught about loving others. The same is true in our culture today. They held belief of Jesus and his work in their hearts but they were not living out his teaching. James is a reminder of what Jesus taught in the Sermon on the mount. He wants the dispersed Jews to remember what it means to live in the Kingdom of God and how that impacts our relationships and interactions with others.
