"God So Loved" by We the Kingdom
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." If you've spent much time in church or Christianity in general, chances are you've read John 3:16 dozens (if not hundreds) of times in your life. It's one of the most highly quoted - and important - verses in Scripture. God loved us so much that He sent Christ and if we believe in Christ, we will live with Him forever. What an incredible gift! This song beautifully depicts the "whoever" part of the Scripture. God invites all of us - the weary, the thirsty, sinners, failures, addicts - all are welcome. We are welcome to come to His well that never runs dry, His table that satisfies, the foot of the cross where our sins are forgiven. In Luke 5:31-32 Jesus says, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” We are all sick with sin - we are all in need of a Savior - and when we realize we are thirsting after something greater we realize our own need. The invitations to those in need culminate in a chorus that quotes John 3:16. This is followed up with another chorus as we sing "The power of hell forever defeated. Not it is well, I'm walking in freedom." Sin no longer has a hold on us because of the work of Christ. This moves us to worship - "Praise God...from whom all blessings flow! Praise Him...for the wonders of His love!" |
