Resources for life groups, families, or personal spiritual development.
As we continue our series in the book of James, a practical way we can have “A Faith that Works” is by not showing partiality or favoritism in the body of Christ. James 2:1 says: “My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory.” We are to follow the “golden rule” found in Matthew 7:12 where we value others above ourselves. Favoritism, partiality, discrimination and racism are sin so they must be dealt with in the life of a believer.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
- How do we “show favorites” as Christians and how can we overcome doing so?
- Galatians 3:28 says we are “all one in Christ Jesus.” What is the implication of this?
- What practical ways can we live out Micah 6:8 (“to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with our God”) especially in light of the racial tensions in our land? How should we treat others who are different than us?
- Interact with the quote made by Gandhi: “If it weren’t for Christians, I would be a Christian!”
- How does it make you feel that representatives from all people groups (races and ethnic groups) will be in heaven? (See Revelation 7:9-10)
