"God's Not Dead" recorded by Newsboys, written by Daniel Bashta
Romans 8:9-11 says, “You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” Stop and think about that for a minute…the very same Spirit who literally raised Jesus from the dead lives inside of all believers. Too often we live like we are powerless against all the world throws at us. Perhaps worse yet, too often we try to pull our power from places other than God - status, wealth, possessions, popular opinion, you name it. When we remember that our power comes from the Spirit inside of us, the potential impact we could have for Christ is limitless. So many lyrics from this song point back to Paul’s words in this passage from Romans. “Let love explode and bring the dead to life. Let hope arise and make the darkness hide. My God’s not dead, He’s surely alive. He’s living on the inside, roaring like a lion!” The Pre-Chorus says, “I’m lost in Your freedom. This world I’ll overcome!” Romans 8:37-39 says, “37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” What confident hope we have in Jesus! |
