"Graves into Gardens" by Elevation Worship
God can take a hopeless situation and turn it around for His glory. He can take us at our very worst and still work things together for our ultimate good. Romans 8:28 tells us, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." The first verse is the story of many of us who have searched for hope and fulfillment in things other than Jesus. "I searched the world but it couldn't fill me. Man's empty praise and treasures that fade are never enough. But You came along and put me back together, and every desire is now satisfied here in Your love." The chorus is then a simple reminder that our fulfillment is only in Jesus as we sing "there is nothing better than You" repeatedly. In verse 2 we confess our weakness, failures, and flaws, yet Jesus still calls us friend (John 15:15). He is God in our highest highs and lowest lows and no matter where we wander, His mercy and grace will find us if we are His. The bridge alludes to several pieces of Scripture. He turns mourning to dancing and gives beauty for ashes (Isaiah 61:1-3). He turns graves into gardens (2 Kings 13:20-21). He turns bones into armies (Ezekiel 37). He turns seas into highways (Exodus 14). The same God who did these things is the same God who is living and active today! |
